Dear Friends,
In 2001 Velikie Luki hosted the 6th International
annual Balloon Meet. 24 hot air balloon teams competed for the title
of the Champion of Russia and the international Cup. For these years
Velikie Luki and the whole region have recommended themselves as
a most hospitable for balloonists place.
First of all the perfect and ecologically pure nature
of our region creates unique conditions for balloonists. The exclusive
goodwill of our inhabitants, not spoilt by attention of press, TV
and visitors undoubtedly gives an additional attraction for region.
The first ever in Russia the international balloon
competition was carried out in Velikie Luki in 1999. The competition
was awarded a prestigious international category CIA FAI - "Premier
sporting event". In general opinion of all pilots and officials
- CIA representatives participating in the meeting, the event was
successful and completely met high CIA requirements.
Now in 2002 the city of Velikie Luki once again has
an honour to open the Russian ballooning season. Velikie Luki local
administration and people take their pleasure to invite you to take
part in the 7th International Balloon Meet, which is going to be
held from June 08 till June 16.
During the last few years lots of effort in our country
was put into development of local ballooning in Velikie Luki. Velikie
Luki – 2002 presents the 1st Hot Air Balloon Cup of Russia; and
this is an excellent opportunity to raise both a sporting level
of Russian pilots and level and prestige of Russian ballooning in
general. Also within the framework of meeting the pilots of the
different countries will compete for a prestigious trophy - "Cup
of Prominent Russian Aeronauts", founded by Balloon Federation
of Russia and Publishing House "Economic newspaper".
The competitions organizing committee cordially and
warmly welcomes you to participate in the 7th Velikie Luki International

friends would aspire to rise into Velikie Luki sky in the future.
