In 2008 the people of Velikie Luki invite you to participate to traditional International balloon meet to be held on June, 7-14 in Velikie Luki.
Within the framework of the 13th International Hot-Air Balloon Meet the following events will be held:
The 4rd Velikie Luki Cup - the Winner will be Russian competitor, who took part in the International Balloon Meet before, with the highest aggregated score.
The 2nd Princess Olga Cup - the Winner will be a woman competitor with the highest aggregated score by the end of the event.
"The Velikie Luki Cup" was established by the municipal authorities of Velikie Luki with the support of Russian Balloon Federation in 2005 in honour of the city contribution to Russian ballooning.
"The Princess Olga Cup" was established by Pskov region government in 2007 for ladies pilots in honour with the aim of the development of women-piloted ballooning in Russia and popularization of the historical heritage of the area. This Cup was named by the great old-Russian ruler – the princess Olga. The first mention of Pskov city in chronicles (903) is related to the years of her government. She was a great founder and organizer of the first Russian state – Kiev Russia and made a great contribution to Russian state life and culture. The memory of her left in Pskov area in topographic and other names.
