In 2001 Velikie Luki hosted the 6th International annual Balloon Meet. 24 hot air balloon teams competed for the title of the Champion of Russia and the international Cup. For these years Velikie Luki and the whole region have recommended themselves as a most hospitable for balloonists place.

First of all the perfect and ecologically pure nature of our region creates unique conditions for balloonists. The exclusive goodwill of our inhabitants, not spoilt by attention of press, TV and visitors undoubtedly gives an additional attraction for region.
